One day last week, I went into the back yard to convince Ginger to come back inside, and I almost ran into this spider's web. It was only visible from one side, so I was glad that I had approached the tree from a wide angle! Isn't it amazing to see what intricate structures can be created by such little creatures? I don't know how anybody can NOT believe in a master designer of our universe!
Last Saturday, four women from our Sunday School class got together on a quest to redecorate our classroom. It's always been a pretty drab, institutional kind of space, and a couple of the ladies thought we should make it more inviting. So we got together and went to several resale shops near the church, picking up a few items here and there. We ended up making the space more like a living room, with a wing chair for the teacher and a gathering space with a lamp and artwork on the wall, even adding a couple of rugs to cover up the linoleum tile. My main role in all of this was to be an encourager, since I don't have any sense with decorating. It was fun to spend time with my friends, and the rest of the class members were suitably pleased with the results.
We had our first Clear Lake Symphony concert last weekend. It went pretty well, especially considering that we had to miss our scheduled Labor Day rehearsal, since the church where we were supposed to practice had all the utilities shut off for the holiday! Speaking of Labor Day, Ben and I went bowling together so that I could practice for my league. While we were there, another couple came in and noticed our UK shirts; they were also wearing UK blue. It was fun to meet somebody else who appreciates everything Kentucky! I bowled again later in the week with my teammate, Sylvia, and I actually put together a 145 game, then I managed to throw a 150 in league play this Monday. I must be improving; my average the first week of the league was 95! But I have to remain humble; the same game in which I threw 150, one of the other ladies rolled a 221...
My seventeen oboe students are keeping me busy, and I still try to get to Curves at least 3 times a week to work out. This week we're keeping an eye on Hurricane Ike and hoping that it weakens before it strikes land again; we're also hoping to get some rain from it, since Hurricane Gustav gave us nothing but a gentle breeze.
