For the last several weeks, Robyn and I have been sorting through everything in her apartment in preparation for her big move. That means she has to make a decision about each item. There's a place for things that are going into storage, another place for things that are going to LA with her, a box for things that can be used at my house, a pile of books and CD's to donate to the church library, a bag for clothes and other items to go to the ICM resale shop, and, of course, a large trash can. It's amazing how much stuff she hasn't gone through since her Belmont days; we even found some notebooks from her classes at UK. So we've been carrying LOADS of trash and giveaways out of that place. It feels good to be clearing out so much stuff!
But now there's an even bigger decision looming. Just in the last month, Robyn's teaching studio has mushroomed. She really loves teaching, and she's really gotten attached to several of her students. She's been investigating the possibility of teaching in LA, to no avail. It seems that California's commitment to quality band programs is nowhere near what it is in Texas, and many schools don't have any bassoons or kids playing them, and those that do have bassoon players already have a teacher. It's very discouraging to her to think that she won't be teaching and that she won't have a ready source of income while she's there. When we sit down and talk about numbers, it seems to make a lot more sense for her to stay here and continue teaching the kids she already has and add as many more as she possibly can; right now that number is a minimum of 18. I know she'll be able to pick up several more right away if she tells the band directors here that she's staying. She also has to consider her long-term goals and whether or not the performance certificate from USC will help her achieve those goals.
So.....we covet your prayers about this, because she really should decide before she leaves for Canada on June 14. Help us out, okay?

Sounds like she's got some tough choices to make. We'll be praying for her!
