Robyn is about to begin the last semester of her MM degree and is starting the audition process for wherever she might end up next year. In addition, she has to make audition CD's and DVD's for various summer festivals, and they all have specific deadlines. And, being Robyn, procrastination has ruled, meaning that she is usually scrambling at the last minute to get everything ready.
Last night as I drove home from choir practice, I called her to check on how she was doing at getting ready for her trip to Pittsburgh today to audition at Carnegie-Mellon. She was working on making a CD for a summer festival, which had to be postmarked by today. She asked if I would stop by her place and pick it up and mail it for her, since the post office nearest her apt. doesn't have a 24-hr. automated system, and she had to leave for the airport early in the morning. I agreed to do that.
When I arrived at her apt., she said she needed to record Figaro one more time just to get it exactly right for this CD. She got out her bassoon, played the excerpt several times, then went to her computer to splice it into place. Darn, it was too slow to match the other one that was on there...she tried again, with the same result. By this time it was after 10 p.m. and I was wondering why I'd been so quick to agree to help her out... She did a third recording and got a good take with the right tempo, but the room ambience didn't match up with the recording done in the studio at school, so she had to fuss around with the background noise settings. After several attempts, she finally got it right and burned the CD. Thank heaven for her training in music technology!
I stopped at the post office on the way home and mailed the thing, finally slipping into bed around 11:30. Yawn.
I sure will miss having her so close by next year...or will I?
