Let it Snow!!!!

Wow, what a strange week. Tuesday it was in the high 70's until a strong cold front started blowing in, and Wednesday it was down in the 30's and cloudy and rainy. The weather forecasters kept telling us that we might have "winter mix" by evening, but we are usually disappointed by those predictions and tried not to get our hopes up. But, lo and behold, before the sun was all the way down, snowflakes were appearing in the Houston area. We went to choir practice and came out two hours later to find the ground covered in snow, with more still falling. As we drove home, the snowfall got heavier as we went south.

When we got to our street, we saw that somebody had built a couple of very large snowmen in the park, and we couldn't resist getting the camera to take snapshots of them---a very unusual sight in Houston!

We took Ginger out for her walk, and she was so happy! You see, Ginger loves to eat ice whenever we toss her a piece. Well, the snow was like manna from heaven for her--an unlimited supply of ice. She couldn't even remember to pee, she was so ecstatic about eating all of the ice off the ground, and by then that was a rather substantial amount of ice.

People were outside up and down the block taking pictures of their houses, yards and plants all covered in snow. Without a doubt, this was the most snow we've had in Houston since we moved here in July 1983. It actually did accumulate enough to cover up the grass.

By the time I got up this morning, the melt had begun, but the neighborhood still had plenty of white stuff to crunch my boots in (yes, I did put on my snow boots that I wear when we go on ski trips).

Snow in Houston in December (this tied a record for the earliest snowfall in Houston)was a terrific way to get everybody in the Christmas spirit!

That's great! You've now had more snow than we have this winter!
