Little by little, we're changing things in our house to bring it into the 21st century. By far the most obvious change is our new kitchen countertop. It was time to get rid of the 70's harvest gold formica that dominated the color scheme. So earlier this week we had a new countertop installed. At this point, it's hard to get the whole picture, since the new splashback treatment isn't done yet, and the painting hasn't been started, but we are on our way to having a completely new look in the kitchen. One of the toughest parts of this whole deal was having to empty the cabinets underneath the countertops, which led to the creation of a mountain of bags of stuff to give away to the next truck that comes by in search of donations.
Here's a picture taken during the demolition process.

We have a beautiful new integrated sink that's larger than the old one. Ben spent several hours under the sink reattaching all of the plumbing after they finished the countertop, but I didn't get a picture of him working! We put the old stainless steel sink out on the curb, and it was gone long before trash pickup time. We could have taken it to a recycler, but some kind stranger saved us the trouble!
And finally, a larger view of the countertop itself.
