A Visit to Crestridge

Gotta take a break from the choir tour story to tell about a visit to Crestridge. I flew to Nashville last Thursday, and Robyn and I drove over to camp, arriving in time for baked potato night and Council of Progress. After CP, we made the traditional, obligatory visit to Dairy King along with about a dozen other camp staffers. Yummy! We started out staying at the Super 8 in Black Mountain, but one night of that foul-smelling room was more than enough. Luckily, our friend Jackie at camp had found out about an inn at Ridgecrest that was just opening for business under new management, and there was a lovely room available there.
Visiting at camp while camp is in session means getting put to work. On Friday, Robyn accompanied the Chippewas to Lake Lure and took pictures for the website. I hung around the Lodge and helped the office staff with some projects they were working on; I even made a run to the fabric store to buy supplies for a craft, then I helped design and cut out the pieces for it. Saturday morning I visited Jerry Read Smith's dulcimer workshop (see www.songofthewood.com)where my dulcimer was made. Saturday evening was CARNIVAL at the boys' camp, and we both got drafted to work the cotton candy machine. Can you say "sticky?" That's how we felt after it was over! Robyn managed to get a few pictures of kids having fun at the carnival, too. I enjoyed going out each morning for a walk/jog/uphill hike a couple of mornings while Robyn enjoyed sleeping late (she's been getting up for a 7 a.m. class all summer), and we even managed a soak in the hot tub before church Sunday morning to soothe my sore muscles!

We drove back to Nashville Sunday evening, and I spent the next two days doing laundry and cleaning Robyn's apartment while she was at work. We had a fun visit with cousins Elaine & Amanda Tuesday evening, playing a couple of invigorating rounds of "Aggravation." I flew back home Wednesday in time for choir practice; now it's back to the daily grind!
