After lunch at Quincy Market, we met at the First Baptist Church of Boston for a tour. We did not present a program here, but we did learn more about our Baptist forefathers. This church claims to have been instrumental in starting the Southern Baptist Convention, as one of the SBC's founders went to Philadelphia from FBC Boston. There is a museum of sorts in the chapel; the building itself has some serious maintenance issues, but the (small) congregation is working on those problems. Fortunately, the church does have an endowment which helps with the expenses of maintaining such an old building. I thought the contrast between the old and new pictured here was striking.

Following the FBC tour, we decided to go on a boat tour of the harbor with Curt & SuEllen Mooney and John Rogers & Janie Nathans. We bought tickets for the trolley ride to the harbor, then proceeded to wait for about 50 minutes for the next trolley, which the ticket seller had promised would be there within 15 minutes. By the time we got to the harbor, we just had time to get on the last boat of the day. It was a pleasant ride (no rain!), and we blew off the rest of the trolley tour to eat dinner at a nice little Italian place in the north end before heading to the train station to ride back to the hotel.

Tuesday started quite early; we drove to Philadelphia (in the rain) and checked into our hotel there, which was very near Independence Square. We had a guided walking tour late that afternoon. I didn't take any pictures because it was overcast, and the light seemed to be behind all of the buildings. We had dinner with the Mooneys at Rotten Ralph's, then we walked around exploring until we got caught in another rain shower a couple of blocks from the hotel. A large number of our folks were out for a guided walking "ghost tour" and got pretty thoroughly soaked; we were glad we had opted out of that one!

Sounds like a lot of fun! Thanks for all the details! "Rachel" is looking pretty good for her age, don't you think?
